Luckily for us, we have had a pretty mild winter in our area with warmer than usual weather and very little snow. Although this has been nice, you should still be aware of how your car is running to be prepared for the spring. Follow some of these suggestions and get your car checked out at our service center to make sure your car is in tip top shape for those spring and summer road trips!
First and foremost, you should make sure your battery is working. Winter can be tough on your car, causing your battery to work harder and drain more. Make sure you take note of signs such as slower power windows, dimmer lights, etc.
If your breaks are squeaking, you need to do something about it. Winter weather and salts on the road could potentially deteriorate brake parts. Make sure your breaks are in good shape to optimize your safety.
To even further elaborate on the damage road salts can do, you must also make sure to clean the undercarriage of your car. All the winter debris of the road will get picked up and can corrode the metal parts.
Another part of your car that gets beat by winter conditions are your windshield wipers. The conditions can dry them out, making them ineffective against the higher percentage of rainfall we get during the warmer months. Make sure to replace them if needed!
Last but not least is tire care. Changes in temperature can affect the pressure in your tires. Make sure to keep them inflated to the proper level that is stated in your owner's manual or on the inside of your driver's door. You should also be aware of your tire treads to know if you have a safe amount of grip on the road. You can test this by placing a quarter in one of the grooves. If the head of Washington is covered by the tread, your tires should be at an appropriate level. If you use a penny and Lincoln's head is visible, it's time to think about replacing your tires.
