'America's Got Talent' Host Nick Cannon Stars in New 'Best Yourself' Honda Civic Ad Campaign

As 'America's Got Talent' host and hubby of Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon might have a full slate of responsibilities, but that TV personality is ready to add Honda spokesperson to the list. Cannon will debut a new ad campaign for the 2013 Honda Civic on 'America's Got Talent' on August 11.

Looking to hook the smartphone generation, Honda is taking a different route. Lining up "America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon, the Japanese automaker will debut a new ad campaign for its redesigned Civic sedan during the August 11 broadcast of "Talent."

"In the entertainment business, much like the auto industry, there is always pressure to adopt the latest trends," Cannon said in a statement.

"I've built my career by staying true to myself and my personal beliefs, and it's the same commitment that I saw in Honda and their development of the 2013 Civic that drew me to this project."

The campaign focuses on individuals working toward their goals, whether playing the violin, shooting hoops, or completing math problems. Beyond the ad's "America's Got Talent" debut, Honda will push the campaign on social media, inviting users to share how they plan to push themselves and achieve their goals.

The 2013 Honda Civic builds on a 2012 model refresh, adding air conditioning, USB, Bluetooth, and a backup camera as standard features. The 2013 sedan model starts at $18,165, with the Si Coupe model featured in the ad campaign starting at $22,515.

The 2013 Honda Civic Si Coupe is a HOT Commodity

From 2006 to 2011 the Civic Si was a master class in small, affordable, thrifty performance. The quick steering rack, taut suspension, and revvy, 197-horsepower VTEC engine were things of beauty.

This year, the 2013 Civic Si improves, especially over the 2012, is in its refinement. The interior is quieter, cutting down on wind and tire noise. The only engine noise that enters the cabin is of the “good” variety.

 

The choice of cabin materials is a significant improvement, as it now feels befitting of a $25,000 car. The materials are softer to the touch, and look better in general.

As usual, Honda has done just fine with the driver’s primary interfaces. A pair of meaty sports seats keeps the driver and passenger snug during hard cornering, and the small, flat-bottomed steering wheel is finished in a grippy, perforated leather. The shifter, a tiny knob, has the beautiful action that Honda is known for.

2013 Honda Civic Si Sedan: Video Review

In 2012, Honda launched a brand new Civic that was widely viewed as a step backward for the perennial small car all-star. Honda quickly moved to dramatically refresh the Civic lineup for 2013, upgrading both the design and feature set. We drove the sporty 2013 Honda Civic Si Sedan to test some of these new standard features, such as a rearview camera and BlueTooth HandsFreeLink.

2013 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe are First Compact Cars to Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award

Everyone likes a good comeback story. When the 2013 Honda Civic emerged redesigned after just one year on the market, most of us were expecting some nicer interior materials and some sound deadening. Honda didn’t just settle for on-the-surface improvements, however, and it shows.

With new structural bracing that was added for the refresh, the 2013 Honda Civic sedan and coupe have earned the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Pick+” designation, becoming the first compact car to do so.

The IIHS has designated “Top Safety Picks” for years, with each automaker successively improving designs until the award became fairly ubiquitous. In its offset crash testing procedures, it tested for a 40-percent front overlap, which centered most of a simulated impact on the bumper of a car. In August, the IIHS started testing for small-front overlap crashes, in which only 25 percent of a car’s front is hit, putting the same impact on a much smaller area. This weeded cars out from one another.

Honda first got word of the new IIHS testing in 2009 when most of its engineering had already been finished on the 2012 Civic as well as the larger Accord. But with the quick refresh on the Civic, it gave Honda some time to improve the structural design of the 2013 Civic and make it stronger.

“There’s very little chance of a life-threatening injury to the head or chest,” says Honda’s Chuck Thomas, Chief Engineer of Automotive Safety for Honda R&D Americas, Inc. in Raymond, Ohio, responsible for continuous safety improvements.

Honda has created a novel structure called ACE II–Advanced Compatibility Engineering–that’s designed to be “compatible” with safely crashing both larger and smaller vehicles into one another without the hazards typically associated with the size differentials. In the ACE II designed for the 2013 Honda Civic and larger Accord, the crash structure is set up relatively high within the body; Honda lowers its impact absorption point in larger vehicles like trucks, crossovers, and minivans.

Differentiating from standard car structures, the ACE front bumper beam is part of the body structure, aided by tertiary supports. This helps disperse forces across the whole body, using more high-tensile steel than what’s been used in previous-generation cars. Normal bumper beams are typically mounted at two low points and take front impacts well, but have suffered with the small-front overlap testing when more force has been distributed to the outside of the vehicle structure.

Honda boasts that not only does it have the first compact car to earn the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+ designation, but it also has five cars total that have earned that title–Civic coupe and sedan, Accord coupe and sedan, and the Acura TL. Across all of Honda and Acura, 19 models are Top Safety Picks.

Value, Affordability, Reliability & Drivability

What are the most important features for a young car driver making their first automobile purchase? Graduation is right around the corner and many College and High School students will be deciding which car best suits their lifestyle and wallet as well.

Another important aspect to many young car buyers is making sure they are living eco-friendly. Hybrid Options are plentiful. In fact, many of Honda's models come in hybrid versions including the Honda Insight which has a base price of around $18,000.

2012 Honda Civic: 10 of Many Things To Know

With the release of the 2012 Civic, Honda kept it conservative, which is not a bad thing when it comes to one of the best selling cars, ever. Though similar to last year's predecessor, there all still some big changes, along with some small ones that you may not have known about, until now.
  

2012 Civic LX Sedan - $149/month!

1) The Civic has 5 different models to choose from, giving a little something for every demographic. Choose from the Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe, the sporty Civic Si (Sedan or Coupe), most fuel efficient Civic HF, and Civic Hybrid.

2) Also available, in some markets, is the Green Car of the Year: 2012, the Honda Civic Natural Gas. This car provides a cheaper fuel alternative that gives off less green house gases.

3) Honda has improved the aerodynamics of the 2012 Civic, adding to fuel efficiency. A new wheel design, smaller grill opening, flat under body, longer hood, and sculpted bumpers all lower the drag coefficient.

4) Each model has shed the pounds as well, ranging from 20-55 less, varying on the model, with the greatest drop in the EX-L (58 pounds less).

5) The new Civic has four more cubic feet of room with 1.6 more inches of back seat leg room. Altogether, the interior feels and looks much more roomier than before.

6) Thinner A Pillars on the windshield increase forward visibility, minimizing those pesky blind spots around curves.

7) Less noise enters the cabin, which may seem like the engine is not working as hard, but trust us, it definitely is. Enjoy a more enjoyable ride and save your ears by being able to lower the tunes, if you want.

8) Upgraded from last year is the plastic interior, adding to the all around aesthetic quality of the car.

9) Comfort should be a top priority in a car, and Honda made sure that this happened in the new Civic. Seats are now more supportive, and the lumbar support is less intrusive. Don't fall asleep at the wheel!

10) Last, but not least, is the addition of a 5-inch screen, called intelligent Multi-Information Display, which displays info such as blue tooth, the trip computer, a clock, and audio functions.
